1942 is an early scrolling shooter for the arcade that was ported over to several platforms including the NES. You play the pilot of a 1942 fighter plane who must shoot his way through 32 waves of hostile Japanese enemy fire from fighter planes, bombers, and occasionally, enormous boss planes. The game supports two players, but not at the same time, which really drops its entertainment value. Compared to later scrolling shooters, the game is quite primitive in the graphics and sound department, but it did start the 194X series which was very popular in the arcades of the 1980s.
